We love any excuse to get creative — and Mother’s Day is the perfect time for it! Whether it’s a card, a keepsake or something a little bit quirky, handmade gifts are always the ones mums treasure most.

Here are some fun and easy Mother’s Day craft ideas that preschoolers will love making (and mums will adore receiving!).

Painted Handprint Cards

There’s nothing quite as sweet as a tiny handprint turned into art. Try making handprint flowers or butterflies using bright paint on folded card. Add a little message and it becomes a treasured keepsake.

Paper Plate Portraits

Children can create a “portrait” of their mum using a paper plate, yarn for hair, and felt or paper scraps for features and accessories. The results are often hilarious — and always adorable.

“Why I Love My Mum” Booklets

With some folded paper, help children create a little book filled with drawings and answers to prompts like, “My mum is really good at…” or “Mum makes the best…” You’ll love seeing their unique (and often funny) responses!

Egg Carton Flower Bouquets

Paint the sections of an old egg carton, add a pipe cleaner or straw stem, and you’ve got colourful flowers that never wilt. Pop them in a jar decorated with ribbon or stickers for the full effect.

Love Heart Suncatchers

Using contact paper and coloured tissue paper, little ones can design heart-shaped suncatchers to stick on the window. It’s a lovely way to brighten up the home and remind Mum of her little one’s love.

Mum’s Favourite Things Collage

Let children flick through magazines or use drawings to put together a collage of things Mum loves — flowers, cups of tea, pets, the beach, you name it. It’s a great conversation starter, too.

At Kenmore Hills Early Learning, we believe in making memories — and Mother’s Day is the perfect time to slow down, get creative and show some love. Whether your little one’s craft ends up on the fridge, the wall, or Mum’s bedside table, it’s sure to be cherished.
