A Day in Our Kindergarten

In our Kindergarten Room, each day is filled with meaningful learning, creativity, friendships, and fun. We follow a flexible and engaging routine that supports children as they grow in confidence, independence, and readiness for school, while still enjoying the joy of play in a safe and nurturing environment.

6:30 – 7:30: Breakfast. The day begins with a nutritious breakfast in a calm and welcoming space, giving children time to settle in, chat with friends, and ease into their day.

6:30 – 8:00: Family Grouping. During family grouping, children connect with educators and peers across rooms. This supports strong relationships, a sense of belonging, and smooth transitions into the kindergarten day.

8:00: Learning Through Play (Indoor & Outdoor). Children engage in a balance of indoor and outdoor play-based learning experiences. Planned activities during this time encourage curiosity, problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, and active exploration.

9:30: Morning Tea. A healthy snack to refuel growing bodies and minds, ready for continued learning and play.

10:00 Free Play & Intentional Learning. Experiences Children are invited to take part in intentional learning experiences based on their interests and developmental goals. These experiences support early literacy, numeracy, social skills, and independence in a fun and meaningful way.

10:30: Group Time. Group time includes discussions, stories, songs, show and tell, and collaborative activities. This time supports communication skills, confidence, listening, and a strong sense of community.

12:00: Lunch. Children enjoy a nutritious lunch with friends, encouraging independence, responsibility, and social interaction during mealtimes.

12:00-2.00: Rest & Quiet. Time Children are supported to rest and recharge their bodies. While most children no longer sleep, quiet activities such as reading, drawing, or relaxation help them feel refreshed for the afternoon.

2:00: Afternoon Tea. A light snack to boost energy levels and prepare children for afternoon learning and play.

2:30 – 6:30: Afternoon Play & Pick-Up. The afternoon includes relaxed free play, creative projects, outdoor experiences, and opportunities to reflect on the day until it’s time to head home. Throughout the day, our educators provide thoughtful guidance, encouragement, and support—helping Kindergarten children feel confident, capable, and excited about learning as they prepare for their next big step into school.

What does “School Readiness” look like within the Kindy Room at KHEL? A message from Miss Ann:

At Kenmore Hills Early Learning, school readiness is about nurturing confident, capable, and curious learners, not primitively rushing children into formal academics. In our kindy room, we focus on supporting children to feel emotionally secure, socially confident, and ready to engage with learning. Through play-based learning, intentional teaching and strong relationships, we support children to build independence, communication skills, early literacy and numeracy skills, emotional regulation and positive social connections. Our approach respects each child’s individual pace, ensuring they transition to school feeling confident, capable and supported
