Meet our animals

Here at Kenmore Hills Early Learning we encourage children to learn all about the Australian Wildlife.

Children may experience a variety of benefits from interacting with animals, including: social and emotional development, learning opportunities, self-esteem and other cognitive and physical benefits. Let us introduce you to our resident reptiles and birds. Book a tour to visit our centre and check out our famous barnyard.

Larry the lizard

Larry the lizard

Larry lives in our Senior Kindy Room and is a very lazy lizard. Larry’s favourite thing to do is sleep. When Larry is out and about greeting all of his friends he loves to try and crawl up onto their shoulders and snuggle into their necks. Larry loves to eat blueberries and bananas however he can only have these foods sometimes as they have a lot of sugar in them. Larry also eats veggies, his favourite being broccoli and kale.

Armour the shingleback lizard

Armour the shingleback lizard

Our shingleback lizard Armour calls the Junior Kindy room home. Armour is a social butterfly. If Armour doesn’t feel that he is getting enough attention he will start scratching at the glass of his enclosure. He loves getting out to interact with all of his friends. Armour will even fall asleep in our arms while we scratch the top of his head. When it’s time to eat he enjoys broccoli, kale and berries.

Lemon the albino python

Lemon the albino python

Lemon is our resident Albino python that resides in the Kindy room. Lemon loves to hang out on his tree branch or inside his cave. When Lemon comes out to visit his friends, his favourite thing to do is wrap himself around the educator’s arm so that his small human friends can touch his back. Lemon gets to eat a mouse once a fortnight. His human friends have kept his last two sheds so that they can measure how much he has grown.

Franklin the turtle

Franklin the turtle

Franklin the turtle calls Senior Kindy home, and lives next to his mate Larry the Blue Tongue Lizard. Franklin loves engaging with his friends through the glass of his tank, swimming up to say hello. Franklin loves to get outside in his pool and bake in the sun. He has a very strict beauty routine. Franklin needs his shell cleaned and scrubbed at least once a week. His favourite activity is feeding time, Franklin loves to gobble up crickets.

Our chickens

Our chickens

Our chickens live in our upper playground. They are very inquisitive and cheeky. They will go up to the fence when their friends come over to say hello, encouraging the small humans to give them a pat. Both chickens enjoy scratching around for bugs to eat but love nothing more than when they get a special treat of leftover veggies from the kitchen.
