Junior Kindy – independence, socialise, grow

2.5-3.5 years old

Educators = Miss Meena, Miss Elisa and Mr Dylan

A burst in language development and the opportunity to learn about turn taking and socialising is the main influence in the educational program for our toddlers.

We want to provide opportunities for children to grow and learn at their own pace, to help foster this our Educators develop and implement a program based on each child’s interests as well as what they have observed and/or suggestions from families. The program will focus on encouraging independence, and the development of language, self-expression and fundamental social skills.

Our Educators are about creating inspirational learning spaces for children daily, to help stimulate and encourage children’s learning and involvement with others.

In amongst all the playing and exploring the children will also get an opportunity to relax and rest in their rooms either by having a sleep or playing with some quiet activities to help rejuvenate them for their further exploring in the afternoon.

Why Choose Kenmore Hills Early Learning Junior Kindy?

1. Unique Learning Experiences!

1.1. In our junior Kindy room, we build on the strong foundations developed in the toddler room. Children are further supported to build their confidence, independence, and sense of self while developing physical coordination, fine motor skills, early problem-solving, and social connections through meaningful play experiences.

2. Hands-On Learning with Animals!

2.1 With our special reptile visitors, including Larry the Lizard and Franklin the Turtle, children enjoy hands-on learning experiences that foster curiosity and respect for living things. Educators guide children in learning about gentle hands, animal care, and the natural world, helping them build empathy and an appreciation for nature.

3. Bush Kindy!

3.1 With children over the age of 3, we offer a fortnightly Bush Kindy Program. This is where, accompanied by educators, children walk down to our local creek to explore the area. We encourage them to observe the different animals they see, what the creek water does when it rains, and so much more!

4. Creek Neighbours!

4.1 Creek Neighbours is a face-to-face program delivered by experienced educators from the Environment Centres who come to you to deliver the program. It’s a free program designed to connect kindergarten students, their families, and the community to their local creek catchment. It is delivered over four sessions, which all link to the Early Years Learning Framework (belonging, being and becoming).

5. Buddy Class!

5.1 Our Junior Kindy children take part in a buddy program with the Toddler room. These regular sessions help build familiarity, friendships, and confidence, making future transitions smooth, positive, and exciting.

6. Individual Learning Journeys.

6.1 Every child’s learning journey is unique. Our Lead Educator works closely with families to understand each child’s interests, strengths, and developmental goals. Together, we support children’s growth through intentional teaching, ongoing observations, and meaningful learning experiences.

A Day in Our Junior Kindy

In our Junior Kindy Room, every day is filled with play, learning, laughter, and growing independence. We follow a flexible and nurturing routine that supports children as they build confidence, develop friendships, and explore their world in a safe and supportive environment.

6:30 – 7:30: Breakfast. We begin the day with a nutritious breakfast in a calm and welcoming setting, helping children settle in comfortably and start their day feeling relaxed.

6:30 – 8:00: Family Grouping. During family grouping, children connect with different educators and friends. This time helps strengthen relationships, build a sense of belonging, and ease the transition into the day.

8:00 – 9:00: Playtime (Indoor/Outdoor). Children enjoy a mix of indoor and outdoor play, exploring their interests through hands-on experiences. Our planned learning activity takes place during this time, encouraging curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and active learning.

9:00: Morning Tea. A healthy snack to refuel growing bodies and prepare children for more fun and learning.

9:30: Free Play & Group. Learning Experiences Children are invited to take part in daily learning experiences designed around their interests and developmental goals. These experiences support early learning, independence, and social skills in a fun and engaging way.

10:30 – 11:00: Group Time. We come together for songs, stories, conversations, show and tell, and group activities that support language development, confidence, and a sense of community.

11:00: Lunch. A nutritious and enjoyable lunch shared with friends, encouraging social interaction and independence during mealtimes.

11:30 – 2:00: Rest Time. Children are encouraged to slow down and rest their bodies. While not all children sleep, everyone has time to relax quietly so they feel refreshed and ready for the afternoon ahead.

2:00: Afternoon Tea. A light snack to recharge energy levels and support active afternoon play.

2:30 – 6:30: Afternoon Play & Pick-Up. The afternoon is spent enjoying relaxed free play, creative experiences, and indoor and outdoor activities until it’s time to head home.

Throughout the day, our educators provide gentle guidance, encouragement, and care— supporting Junior Kindy children to feel confident, secure, and happy as they learn, grow, and become more independent each day.

What do we do to ensure that all children are engaging with learning daily? A message from Miss Meena (lead educator in Junior Kindy room)

Each day, I support and inspire children’s learning by following their interests, offering choices, and creating a sense of curiosity and wonder. I guide play-based experiences in a warm, caring environment where every child feels safe, supported, and excited to join in. My aim is for each child to feel confident, valued, and happy as they explore, learn, and grow.
