At KENMORE HILLS EARLY LEARNING, Book Week is one of the most exciting times of the year, a perfect opportunity to turn reading into a celebration and build lasting enthusiasm for books. But fostering genuine excitement about reading doesn’t always happen naturally. That’s why we plan a variety of engaging, interactive, and imaginative activities designed to make stories come alive for young learners.
We start by offering choice and variety. Whether it’s silly rhymes, animal adventures, or gentle bedtime stories, children are encouraged to explore books that match their interests. Giving them a say in what to read fosters autonomy and pride in their reading journey.
We also create immersive storytelling experiences. Educators bring books to life with expressive voices, props, puppets, and costumes. These performances capture attention and demonstrate just how fun storytelling can be. We might act out scenes from The Very Cranky Bear or turn our reading corner into a jungle after reading Dear Zoo.
Our daily themed activities tie into books being read—like cooking “magic stew” from Wombat Stew or designing our own book covers to showcase imagination and comprehension. These hands-on connections deepen understanding and make books relevant and exciting.
To extend the excitement beyond the centre, we involve families. We send home short story activity kits or invite parents to be guest readers. When children see reading celebrated both at home and in the centre, it reinforces its value.
Finally, we create special moments during Book Week—like pyjama story day or our “mystery reader” sessions—so that reading feels like a joyful, shared event.
At KENMORE HILLS EARLY LEARNING, we believe that when reading is fun, social, and meaningful, children develop a lifelong love for it, well beyond Book Week.
